Isi artikelBasic psychological needs influence the way to form ego identity, which has relationships with career identity. This study investigated the relations among basic psychological needs, ego identity, and career identity. The participants of this study were 338 students from three middle schools in Busan, South Korea. Three measurement instruments were employed; the Basic Psychological Needs (Ryan and Deci, 2002, 2004), the Ego-Identity Scale (Park Ahcheong, 1996), and the Career Identity Test (Jo Eun-ju, 2001). Correlation and multiple regression analysis were adopted to analyze the collected data. The results of this study were as follows: First, there were significant positive correlations among basic psychological needs, ego identity, and career identity. Basic psychological needs and ego identity had the highest correlation(r=.761, p<. 01). All sub-categories of them had significant positive correlations except two correlations, relatedness of basic psychological needs and stability of career identity, and intimacy of ego identity and stability of career identity. Second, through multiple regression analysis, the results show that all sub-categories of basic psychological needs were significant variables to predict ego identity. In particular, competence and autonomy of basic psychological needs were significant variables to predict career identity.
