The purpose of this study is to examine the difference in procrastination and anxiety as a personality trait according to the cognitive regulatory focus of college students. A regulatory focus distinguishes between two independent structures of strategic inclination, promotion versus prevention. In this study, we would like to answer the following questions: First, is there any difference in procrastination according to each regulatory focus? Second, is there any difference in anxiety according to each regulatory focus? The participants were 435 Korean university students(male=168 , female=264) from 4 universities in Busan, Korea. The reliability and validity of the instrumental tools used in collecting material were verified by ttest, two-way ANOVA. Results are as follows: First, there was a significant difference in procrastination according to each regulatory focus. Procrastination score with prevention focus was higher than that with promotion focus. Second, there was a difference in anxiety according to a prevention focus while that with promotion focus did not change. This study found that procrastination and anxiety as personality trait differ depending on regulatory focus(promotion focus and prevention focus). It means that regulatory focus theory which mainly dealt in the field of social psychology could be applied counseling.
