Isi artikelThe purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of Self-Regulated Learning Program (SRLP) on the learning strategies and academic motivation of lower academic achievers of elementary school. The research questions of this study were as follows: First, does SRLP enhance the learning strategies of lower-leveled elementary students? Second, does SRLP improve the academic motivation of lower-leveled elementary students? This study was conducted with a pre-and post test experimental design. The subjects were 30 sixth graders who were lower-leveled academic achievement from two elementary schools in Busan, South Korea. The experiment group (n=14) was sampled from M elementary school, and the control group (n=16) was from D elementary school. The experiment group was trained with the SRLP for 10 weeks. The SRLP consists of three items such as cognition, motivation, and behavior and contains both individual and group activities for improving underachievers’ learning strategies and academic motivation. The Assessment of Learning Strategies for Adolescents (ALSA) and Academic Motivation Tests were used. To analyze the data, the analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was adopted. The results of this study were as follows: First, the experimental group who participated in the SRLP showed significantly higher improvement in learning strategies than the control group. Second, the experimental group didn't show any improvement in academic motivation compared to the control group. In conclusion, the SRLP had positive effects on the learning strategies of the lower academic achievements of elementary school, but didn't have any positive effect on the academic motivation. Thus, the SRLP could be considered as a consulting program to enhance learning strategies for lower-leveled students.
