Isi artikelStory discussion can be said to be one of the most important activities in early childhood education. The purpose of this study was to examine the meaning of teaching media used by a selected teacher in her circle-time, one of the integral activities for early childhood education. The subject in this study was Ms. Kim who worked in a kindergarten in the city of B. A non-participant observation was conducted in her seven circle-times, and she was interviewed to find out what kind of teaching media she prepared and used in circle-times. As a result, it's found that she prepared the sorts of teaching material with which children could play. Also, video materials and teaching material that had emotional images were prepared, and she took considerations on her own body and narratives related to teaching material available when she chose her teaching material. There were several meanings in her utilization of teaching material: joyful learning, linking the world of imagination and reality/immersion, and expansion of knowledge. The findings of the study are expected to help improve the understanding of teaching material as what could boost communication and interaction between teacher and children in circletime that would easily be likely to be tedious or boring. And the findings of the study suggest that the quality of circle-time depends on the awareness of teachers on teaching material and their selection of the material.
