Isi artikelSmoking in adolescents is popular in Korea. Present findings are based on the data from the 2006 and 2012 Korean Youth Risk Behavior Survey. Smoking rate among students decreased from 2006 (28.0%) to 2012 (24.6%). The odds ratio (OR) of alcohol drinking (most powerful risk factor) increased from 2006 (OR: 5.762) to 2012 (OR: 6.544). Higher school grade, male gender, more stress, depressed mood, and sexual contact are revealed as risk factors, too. By contrast, students who had better academic performance and higher economic status were less likely to smoke.
