This paper aims at determining the level of basic geographical knowledge and perspectives of Turkish social science education students about World, through drawing maps. Research was conducted on a sample of 96 social science education undergraduate students from the third level in order to reflect the effect of “Geography of Countries” course on mapping and their level of knowledge of World. Firstly, students were asked to draw a world map. They were free about writing and drawing anything on the maps, like capital cities, different shapes, symbols etc. Then their drawings analyzed using qualitiative methods. The drawings of participants were reviewed in four section: Physical borders, capital cities, physical formations and importance of countries. Results indicate that Turkey’s appearance on the cognitive maps is important. Most students draw Turkey, in the middle of the world and larger than real. Thay began to draw with Turkey mostly. The other places near Turkey, like Europe, Middle East and Asia, they can draw physical borders. But far continents like, South America and Australia, students couldn’t draw the borders correctly. Students draw North Americas’ borders correctly, because of Turkey and United States of America’s political and economic relationships. Students have much more information about Europe and Asia like capital cities, economic products, physical formations.
