Integrating sustainable development concepts in higher education would have a positive impact on sustainability as it would provide the opportunity to change the ways that future professionals think and work. Education is one of the essential aspects in promoting the sustainability in higher education. In this respect, assessment tools are considered as being important to stimulate and encourage higher education to move in the direction of sustainability. The previous analysis on assessment tools for sustainability in higher education found that education aspect is received less attention in the assessment of sustainability in higher education. Therefore, this paper focuses on the education aspect of the analysed assessment tools. This paper reviews five renowned assessment tools for sustainability in higher education that are widely used. The indicators relating to the aspect of education in these assessment tools have been examined, and it has been found that the issues addressed in these indicators mainly focus on the curriculum, while issues such as the educational programme goals, methodology, and assessment are not adequately addressed. As achieving sustainability in the education aspect is increasingly important, it is vital to create the approach together with the associated indicators and questions beyond the existing education assessment boundaries that are able to measure the education activities holistically.
