In this study, I present my ongoing PhD research work titled, “A survey of teachers of English training program in north central Nigeria: Quality of teachers and effectiveness of teaching in secondary schools”. The persistent failure of secondary school students especially at the English language senior secondary certificate examination (SSCE) is frequently being related to the Nigerian teachers of English language. The goal of this study is therefore to carry out this survey on the outcome of English teacher training program which are the products of the Nigerian Universities and Colleges of Education. The study will also extensively look into the teachers’ beliefs, professional development and impact of the training program on their effectiveness in teaching in the senior secondary schools.
