Isi artikelThis study examines the definition of fair and responsible tourism and also how it is perceived in Korea. From the opportunity to establish direct relationships between people from different cultures that would contribute to build a more united world, and the one to enable the host people and the host countries to develop their culture and to contribute in a sustainable way to their development, tourism tends to become mainly a source of profit for some private tour operators. Unfair, this tendency reinforces and trivializes the dominant-dominated relationships and does not leave much place to the consideration of the respect for cultural diversity and of the often fragile social and natural equilibrium. In that context and under the pressure of the imposed rules and standards, on one hand the most underprivileged small local contractors are in a frenzied competition and trivialize their products with regrettable consequences for themselves and for their social, economical, ecological and cultural environment, on the other hand, the people have great difficulty to find commercial markets and representatives to build a tourism that respect that would enable them to live with dignity. Therefore, it is important how the responsible and fair tourism operated in Korea to develop its concept further.
