Isi artikelThe theorem of gender studies was significant in trying to understand men, women, gay and lesbian and seek to improve the conditions of all sexes whereas functionalism seemed to accept these issues as a natural fact. The concept of functionalism became a key tool in understanding how the social web maintained some sense of order, equilibrium and consensus despite ever-present potential conflicts over. The heart of this concept was the role of men and women were naturally different but complementary. The idea that women and men function as socialized beings at some subliminal but essentially biological level for the benefit of an ‘ordered society’ seemed to have an influence on Lao authors on their composition of contemporary literature. This article studied Khang Khuen Nai Par Leuk, the S.E.A.Write Awarded Lao literature written in 1999 by Janthee Duangsawan . The study found that the characters in the story were composed to agree with functionalist that the roles of men and women were naturally different but complimentary. The male character and the female character in the story performed every aspect of their lives including sexualities as if they were programmed to behave. They seemed to accept their sex roles as prescribed by society without even questioning anything about their roles.
