The Embodied Cognition Theory (ECT for short) advocates the interaction of human’s body, mind and the environment. Firstly, this paper analyzes the features of embodied cognition and points out the fact that college spoken English education is a process of embodiment and contextualization. Secondly, this paper tries to probe into the possibility of realizing the contextualization of college spoken English education in mainland China from two aspects: the contextualization of education approaches and the contextualization of education environment. The contextualized education approaches are various, which can provide students chances to show their specialties and personalities via speaking English. The contextualized education environment, as the guarantee of the contextualized education process, should be extended out of the classroom to meet the needs of changeable education contents and approaches. Consequently, this contextualized education pattern is studentoriented with emphasis on the differences and personalities of individual students. Thirdly, this paper analyzes the influences of the contextualized spoken English education. It could help the education authority, teachers and students in mainland China to change their attitudes towards spoken English education. Most important of all, with ECT as the guiding principle, it encourages the interaction of students’ body, mind and environment in the whole spoken English education process, and stimulates students’ potentials and initiatives in English learning, with the ultimate objective to improve students’ spoken English level effectively.
