The phenomenon of street children is often found in large cities, especially in Jakarta. The more years, the number of street children is increasing. Various causes, consequences, and problems are motivated by the needs that have not been met. Those needs are manifest in their daily attitudes and behaviors, consciously and unconsciously. According to Maslow, these needs include physiological, safety, belongingness/love, esteem, and self-actualization. Therefore, this research intended to study how the lives of street children in terms of Maslow’s needs theory. This study is a descriptive qualitative research as it aims to provide a broad overview and in-depth issue concerning the needs of street children. Semi-structured interview and observation were conducted to two (2) street living children. To enrich the data, researcher also conducted interviews to one (1) friend of each subject. The sampling techniques that is used was snowball sampling because it is done in the subgroup. Type of sampling that is used was linear sampling, ie, the subject will be appointed in sequence one at a time. The results showed that the predominant need is belongingness/love. The fulfillment of this need is not met by the family so they decided to become street children and then are met by their friends among the street children, it made them stay in streets and have no desire to return to their home.
