Isi artikelThis study was conducted to examine the effect of seawater mass flow rate on the productivity of a desalination unit based heat pump with using humidification and dehumidification process. Desalination unit consists of a heat pump system, humidifier and dehumidifier, and seawater heater and air heater (condenser). In this study, the seawater mass flow rate entering the humidifier be varied at 0.029 kg/s, 0.043 kg/s, 0.058 kg/s and 0.072 kg/s by means of regulating the seawater volumetric flow rate entering the humidifier at 100 l/hour, 150 l/hour, 200 l/hour and 250 l/hour. Research parameters were kept constant i.e. the air flow rate entering the humidifier at 0.028 kg/s, the temperature of the sea water entering the humidifier was kept constant at 45oC, salinity seawater feed at 31,342 ppm and seawater in the system was recirculated. The results of this study show that the production of freshwater increases with increasing the seawater mass flow rate entering the humidifier. The average of freshwater production rate of the desalination unit for the seawater mass flow rate entering the humidifier of 0.029 kg/s, 0.043 kg/s, 0.058 kg/s and 0.072 kg/s were 25.63 l/day, 28.15 l/day, 30.10 l/day and 32.83 l/day, respectively.
