Isi artikelStudents’ lack of vocabulary cause students to be passive and faced some difficulties in learning English. One of the reasons is the method used in teaching learning process at school is not effective and boring. Therefore, it needs an alternative teaching learning method to improve students' vocabulary such as Numbered Head Together (NHT) method. This study aims to determine the effect of Numbered Head Together (NHT) method in improving students’ vocabulary. This pre-experimental pre-test and post-test design involves 40 students in grade 7th of one of junior high schools in Bandung. This study employed a pre-test and post-test in the form of multiple choice and writing test in collecting the data. The collected data were then analyzed using t-test. The result of this study shown that tcount = 3.72. According to t distribution table on level of significant 5%, it was gained ttable = 2.02. If tcount = 3.72 and ttable = 2.02, then tcount > ttable. In other words, the null hypothesis is rejected. Conversely, alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. The average score of pre-test and post-test are significantly different (pre-test= 58.52 and post-test=72.77). It can be concluded that teaching vocabulary using Numbered Head Together (NHT) method can improve students’ vocabulary. Therefore it is recommended to be used in the teaching and learning activities.
