The most recent issue in marking performance test is the subjectivity of the raters. Especially in group assessment, an identical perspective among the raters is the essential thing in providing a valid scoring. Numbers of solution are emerged to raise the reliability among the raters. Two most considered solution are the training of raters and the use of scoring scale. The result of the study is intended to give a benefit to the reader, especially for teachers or other researchers whose employing raters in assessing productive skill, as the reference to select a good inter-rater for their practices. The purpose of this study is to examine the inter-rater reliability in a performance test where the raters were not trained and not provided with scoring scale yet have a same educational background. Hence, the collected data were analyzed quantitatively by using correlational analysis. The result shows that the data were highly correlated. It found that the = .7883 and a = .2732. Therefore the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected (0.2732 < 0.7883). The conclusion comes to the statement that the raters with a same educational background will be highly reliable even if they are not trained and not accompanied with scoring scale. It is suggested for the other researchers or teachers who want to use inter-rater in assessing performance to consider the raters’ educational background. It is important to excellent raters from a same educational background if the teachers or researchers cannot provide a training or a scoring scale.
