Isi artikel
In order to translate a text, translators’ grammatical, sociolinguistic, discourse, and strategic competences are essentially needed. Generally, translating text from Source Language (SL) to Target Language (TL) is more difficult than translating texts from TL to SL. Therefore, translators must consider the level of readability of the text in order to produce translations that are comprehensible to specific target groups. Considering the importance of translation quality and referring to the importance of text readability, the writer conducts research related to the level of readability of English translated text from Indonesian folklores. The writer analyzes thirty translations of three Indonesian folklores (Timun Mas , Bawang Merah Bawang Putih , dan Cindelaras ) produced by English Language and Culture Department students. This research is conducted in order to find out whether the translations are accurately made (right on target). The TL will be computationally analyzed by using several indicators, such as Flesch Kincaid Reading Ease, Flesch Kincaid Grade Level, Gunning Fog Score, Coleman Liau Index, and Automated Readability Index.
