Isi artikel
One major problem associated with sequential zone-picking lines is its inability to maintain workload-balance between zones. Some zones may be busy while other zones idle. This load-imbalance problem can hinder the performance of a sequential zone-picking line. This study proposes a cooperative approach which allows pickers in adjacent zones to help one another so that the load imbalance between pickers of different zones can be minimized or eliminated. We propose a variety of cooperation strategies and test their performance using computer simulations. We compare the performance of the proposed cooperation strategies with that of conventional sequential zone-picking methods that do not allow cooperation between pickers. The knowledge learned from this study can benefit warehouse managers seeking to improve the efficiency of sequential zone-picking lines.
