A university library is not only a place where students, professionals and readers can find books and other reading materials but it is also a place where reading and writing are done. In the construction and renovation of the libraries in one of the campuses of ABC University, much attention had been given on the physical size, availability of materials, structure, layout and others. This research was aimed to determine the illuminance levels of the different areas of the four libraries of ABC University with the use of lux meter. The light for most libraries was coming from both natural (daylight) and artificial lights. The artificial light sources are mounted on fixtures which were attached to the ceiling. Each of the library units was divided into smaller sections to better facilitate sampling. The length and width of the smaller areas or sections in the library, and the distance of the light source from the reading or writing surface were determined. Then the number of sample points in each section was computed. The location of sample points was being determined and marked on the floor or reading surface. Illuminance levels were measured in reading (and writing) areas and in shelves were books are placed. Findings had shown that the recorded illuminance levels for most cases fall under 300 lux. Also, there was a difference in the illuminance levels of the different areas in the library units.
