Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as defined by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (Moir, 2001), it is the continuing commitment by business to behave ethically and contribute to economic development while at the same time improving the quality of life of the workforce and their families as well as the local community and society at large. Since Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is now considered by many as a global concept, it has raised concerns as to whether the companies’ business practices adhere to ethical and moral standards. As a prominent aspect of corporate agenda, society in general is increasingly demanding that corporations act responsibly towards its various stakeholders. This study on the drivers of corporate social responsibility (CSR) leading to sustainable development examines what (good reasons) drives companies to engage in CSR toward more sustainable development practices in terms of the CSR framework and the various challenges that prevent the companies from attaining fully their CSR goals. The paper introduces a normative framework integrating the two concepts into a holistic management strategy integrated at all levels of the core business operations. This article concludes that the uptake of CSR among the different companies is largely driven by the need to meet the economic expectations of the stakeholders for sustainability reasons. This is the predominant motivator of the firms to pursue CSR programs. Secondly, regulatory pressures from the government are viewed to serve as a mechanism in creating an environment conducive to the uptake of CSR in the Philippines and its neighbouring countries.
