Isi artikel
In the morning we buy foods and drinks at a convenience store. It seems that bagels are often sold with milk but pizzas are often sold with cokes, standing an observational position of store. Then how to represent such phenomena in the inventory policy of the store? If bagel is ranked in ‘A’ class of the inventory classification, then how about milk? Moreover, there are often several kinds of milk exposed in the store. If the most popular milk is sold out, what will happen? In the past decade we presented a novel algorithm of inventory classification based on the association rules of cross-selling. In this paper, we investigate a new case where substitution of items is considered for the inventory classification using substitution rules and compare it with the classification using association rules. After reviewing the association and substitution rules the advantages and disadvantages of both algorithms for inventory classification are discussed. A numeral example is used to illustrate the results. Several contribution remarks are then presented.
