Isi artikel
Earthquake is one of the main natural disasters that often occur in areas of West Sumatra. Latest, large earthquake that happened at September 30, 2009, has caused damage to the structure and many casualties. Earthquakes that frequently occur in West Sumatra is due to the location of West Sumatra region is flanked by two active plates, the Eurasian plate and Indo-Australian plate and also are at Semangko fault and Mentawai fault. This research was made to study bamboo as retrofitted material. Study the use of bamboo for the retrofitting of earthquake-friendly house is held by long-term objective may use local materials are widely available in local areas so that more economical in terms of cost. The method used in this study is based on ISO 22157-1 (International Standard for Bamboo). Experimental testing consists of water content test, density test, compressive strength test and tensile test. It is obtained from the test results, the highest compressive strength and tensile strength are 94.958 MPa and 183 MPa, showed by Betung bamboo. For solving these problems, using bamboo as retrofitted material for houses could be chosen as an alternative.
