The intrinsic cracks occur in randomly oriented in the hardening concrete surfaces and often penetrate deeply into the concrete elements exposing reinforcements to the atmosphere. The concrete elements suffer from this type of crack is likely to face durability problems. To study cracking in concrete, a good understanding on the behavior of concrete under tension is mandatory, especially tensile strength, strain capacity and tensile modulus of elasticity. In the current study, a direct tensile test employed large scale specimen was carried out at the ages of 2, 3 and 5 days. The results yield the magnitude of tensile strength, strain and modulus of elasticity ranging from 1.95 to 2.7 MPa, 40 to 60 µe, and 40 to 58 GPa, respectively. Various formulas for prediction of tensile properties on hardening concrete result in difference estimate values and need to be treated with more caution.
