Isi artikel
Naming difficulty is one of the first language deficits and one of the probable cognitive deficit diagnostic criteria in probable dementia of the Alzheimer type (DAT), as it reflects the disorganization of semantic memory. It seems apparently, that probable DAT patients have frequent difficulties or make pauses or use circumlocutions in order to find the correct lexical label of an item. In this study our main aim was to investigate if the Boston Naming Test (BNT), a screening test, can distinguish normal cognitively old age people from probable DAT patients and from other type of dementia patients (OTD). Our sample was 85 normal cognitively old age people, 74 probable DAT patients and 21 OTD patients matched on age and education. The dementia groups were also matched on Greek edition MMSE (Folstein, Folstein, & McHugh, 1975; Fountoulakis, Tsolaki, Chantzi, & Kazis, 2000). The 21 OTD group included patients with Vascular dementia, Parkinson disease, Lewy Body disease and mixed type of dementia.
