In the i n t e r r n e d i a t e college c o u r s e o r the advanced high school class, language and Iiterature instruction c a n b e combined to f u r t h e r the students' competence in language skills (speaking inparticular) as well as to provide more a c c u r a t e comprehension of l i t e r a t u r e . This a r t i c l e illustrates many exercises based on Le P e t i t Prince which serve to review grammar, s t i m u l a t e oral participation, and verify students' comprehension of t h e text. The unique f e a t u r e of these exercises is t h a t they a r e not only s t r u c t u r e drills for grarnmar practice, but also reading comprehension exercises. This combination gives substance and meaning to the oral manipulation of s t r u c t u r e and provides f o r m a n d direction to the task of checking reading comprehension.
