The monotony of unvarying schedules occurs in secondary schools and higher education. This article concerns an e f f o r t to modify the classroom situation temporarily through a teacher exchange experiment between a university methods instructor and a high school French teacher. Both participants share their impressions of their new roles and agree that this type of experience should be encouraged. The methods instructor tests her theories and experiences some of the same problems as her student teachers; the high school teacher gains a renewed appreciation for her classroom and an awareness of her value as a professional. Both conclude t h a t t h e cooperating teacher is the key to the student teaching program.
