Isi artikel
Regardless of the number of dic- tionaries to which you have access, if you want the true essence of a word, consult a 9-year-old. Upon asking mine to define the word ‘fair’ (and waiting through her wariness as she looked at me cyni- cally and tried to determine whether this was a trick question), I expectedly heard the response: ‘Treating everyone the same.’ In this instance, my daughter’s name may as well have been Merriam Webster because the latter’s defini- tion similarly states: ‘Treating peo- ple in a way that does not favour some over others.’1 Like lots of 9-year-old logic, this cannot possibly be sufficient
