Isi artikelThe purpose of this investigation was to provide some empirical evidence on the importance of foreign languages in the secondary school curriculum. All language students and an equal number of non-language students in grade nine of School District No. 1 of Erie County, New York, were surveyed with an attitudinal questionnaire. Students' responses tended to indicate that foreign languages are useful, play an important role in the school curriculum, and help in understanding foreign cultures and one's own language better. Almost a majority believed that mathematics and science were the most important subjects in the school curriculum; however, foreign language students liked studying social studies and foreign languages most.
