After eight years, Cafe-Theaterabend (Cafe-Theater Evening) has become a tradition at Westmar College. It is an application of the theory that the goal of public performance can be used as a motivating tool in foreign language learning as well as in extracurricular activities. Skills are developed and strengthened through planning, rehearsing, and performing. Participation in this special event increases the identification on the part of students with the target language group, The inclusion of this type of activity as an integral part of the curriculum is both justifiable and advisable. An additional benefit is that on-campus visibility of the German program is increased, stimulating enthusiasm and helping to maintain enrollments
