This paper is aimed at comparing experienced and novice English teachers’ strategies in handling misbehavior students in young learners’ English classroom. Charles (2008:18) describes misbehavior as “any action that, through intent or thoughtlessness, interferes with teaching or learning, threatens or intimidates others, or oversteps society’s standards of moral, ethical, or legal behavior.” Tsui (2003) stated that novice teacher is a term to describe a teacher with little or no experience in teaching. Although there are no exact criteria of experienced teachers, the qualities like experience, recommendations and nominations from the principal support the qualities of expert teachers. The following research questions will be the guide of this study: (1) Do experienced and novice English teachers differ in terms of handling misbehavior students? (2) Do experienced and novice English teachers have different opinions about misbehavior students? This study is a small scale study as it is restricted to two teachers of a private elementary school in Jakarta. Two types of data were obtained through classroom observation and interview: first, the experienced and novice teachers’ strategies in handling misbehavior students; and, second, their feelings and opinions about misbehavior students. The findings from the studies reveal that there were some similarities and differences in the strategies employed by both teachers. The results of the interview show that both teachers had their own opinion about misbehavior students and how they felt about this kind of students. The experienced teacher considered misbehavior students as something that happen for a reason and she would act accordingly; while the inexperienced teacher would decide the intervention strategies based on the number of misbehavior done by the students. To conclude, both teachers are similar and at the same time, they could be different in handling misbehavior students.
