The main problem of English learners may be the unwillingness of learners to speak. Since speaking is the most important skill in language, most teachers will possibly be frustrated because their students do not participate in speaking activity. However, the teachers should not directly blame the students. There are many possibilities why the students do not want to speak in the class. It can be caused by the condition of the class which is not as fun as the students thought. If this condition always happens in the class, then the students will not participate in the class. Therefore, they just come as listeners in English class which clearly need the learners to speak more in English. This study then tried to overcome this problem by serving “power teaching” to increase students’ participation. At the end of the application, the students were also interviewed in order to see their responses after being taught by power teaching. Besides, power teaching was possible to be investigated whether it is appropriate for English class or not since it was originally introduced to every subject. Therefore, this study investigated not only the students’ participation and responses, but also the possibility of power teaching applied in English class. A class of second grade students in junior high school was chosen as the subject of this study. The data was collected through observation and interview. This study then showed that power teaching ran successfully in the class, increased students’ participation in learning and gave positive responses to the students. Finally, power teaching is possible to be applied by the teachers who have problem with the students’ unwillingness to participate in the class.
