Isi artikel
The results of an experimental advanced English writing course developed for Japanese students at International Christian University suggest that the students' improvement in controlling the discourse structures of the expository essay transfers to their ability to write more grammatical sentences even though the program does not focus on developing grammatical skill. The contents of the program, the development of the students' control of the techniques of writing the expository essay, and the grammatical improvement are examined in detail to demonstrate the results specifically and justify the rationale and procedures. An appendix of three Lesson Plans exemplify the organization and focus of the program, and an annotated bibliography describes some of the most important research relating to the theories and strategies of teaching composition.
