Isi artikel
This paper examines the phenomenon of group bilingualism, the origins of the contact situations which lead to it, and the role of language in maintaining ethnic boundaries, especially in revitalization movements. Special attention is given to the role of the mother tongue language in ethnic minority groups as well as to reasons for these groups' insistence on maintenance bilingual education rather than acceptance of transitional assimilation goals.
