Isi artikel
Intonation analysis has been used in the past to distinguish utterance types in children's early multisyllabie productions. Two elaborations on early procedures are presented. One is focus analysis where intonational cohesiveness and linguistic unity are defined by the child's production of utterances having a single intonational focus. The second is difference attalysis where sets of productions are distinguished on the basis of thek intonational differences. The two procedures reveal that tile constant + variable productions of a 1V2 year old child differ linguistically from her single two-syllable lexical productions, and further, that her first variable + variable productions have linguistic unity. The use of such intonational analyses for modeling psycholinguistic processes is shown to be fruitful and deserving of further explor 9- tion.
