Isi artikelHungarian and Norwegian are two languages whose lexicons contain one adverb meaning 'at that time' and one meaning 'after that' but no word which like English then neutralises the distinction between coreferential terms denoting temporally coinciding or overlapping events and non-coreferential terms denoting temporally successive events. This paper presents a relevance-theoretic account of the discourse properties of English then compared to Hungarian akkor (simultaneity) vs azuin (succession) and Norwegian da (simultaneity) vs stl (succession).
