Isi artikel
This paper examines the traditional characterisation of the process of verbal derivation in Sinhala and the interaction that takes place between the various components of the grammar, which are involved in this process. Earlier attempts at formalising this process such as that in Wickramasinghe (1980) are compared with the present analysis and a first attempt at formulating the rules necessary for deriving the various classes of verbs is proposed. The basic assumption made by the present account is that a more integrated approach to the grammar of Sinlmla yields a more elegant and accurate explanation of the phenomenon.
