Isi artikelThis paper looks at resultative constructions in Korean and English, and shows that their basic features follow from general properties of predication and argument saturation. In English and Korean, resultative events can be expressed either with a secondary predicate or subordinate clause. English (but not Korean) has a third type of resultative construction, the `ECM' type, which occupies a sort of middle ground between predicative and clausal resulta- tives. Apparent di?erences between the two languages arise when English resultatives of one type are compared to Korean resultatives of the other type. But when the same types are compared across languages, the apparent di?erences disappear. The analysis is formulated in the framework of Head-Driven Phrase Structure Grammar (HPSG).
