Isi artikelThis Research wa inspired by the cancellation of the accepted of a student at Don Bosco I elementary School due to this father's HIV status. This event indicates that education about HIV has not been applied well at the elementary school comunity because we assume that the students tend to be at less risk for HIV. Based on the Don Bosco case and the fact that recently more children suffer from the impact of HIV and AIDS, we attempted to enchance the knowledge of the parents of public elementary school on HIV and AIDSin South Part of Jakarta. We use public elementary schools because commonly they are the place where the poor get education, and the government has limited sources to educate the parents about HIV and AIDS. Using pre and post-experimental approaches, we developed a module to educate the parents. We randomly selected 5 schools out of the public elemntary schools in Southern jakarta, but only two welcomed us to do the intervention. We developed a quesionnaire to evaluate their knowledge on HIV and AIDS, especially about transmission. The quationnaire was adapted from the IDHS 2007 and given to the participants before and after the intervention. The ruslt of our study shpws that the module could be applied well according to the time allocation. Further, it increased thr respondents' knowledge on HIV and AIDS among relatively less educated people. We expect that the module could be used and developed in increasing knowledge of HIV and AIDS in the future.
