HDFC Life is a leading private life insurance company catering to 64 million customers spread across 940 locations in India. Grass Root Opportunities @ Work (GROW) is an organization wide program that helps increase operational effectiveness by eliminating waste, reducing costs and overcoming roadblocks created by silo-based work culture and measurement systems. GROW addresses the need for Total Waste Elimination (TWE) & Total Employee Involvement (TEI). GROW works on the simple philosophy of ‘See-Do-Get’ in line with the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) cycle. GROW concept enables continuous improvement by – making people ‘See’ wastes in daily work processes, ‘Do’ improvements by undertaking projects and ‘Get’ the results by improving current process and standard. The underlying theme is that everyone is responsible to increase customer satisfaction and sustainable organization value creation. The participants join GROW forum, where they are appraised on the concepts of change, creative problem solving, principles of Lean, Zero Defect, 8 forms of Waste and 7QC tools using an experiential facilitation format. The participants brainstorm on various ideas for workplace improvement to create an inventory of projects for tracking and implementation. Project management is done the HDFC Life Way comprising of impACT, WoW and eUreka projects with application of suitable structured problem solving methodology. Project closure takes 7-30-60-90 days. The ongoing projects are triggered basis customer complaints, daily performance dashboards and cross functional reviews. In a short time, GROW has created a sound Service industry practice to SeeD GROW at the workplace to drive continual improvement culture to better Daily Management
