Isi artikelAt present, many people are interested in medical safety because of serious medical accidents that have occurred in Japan. Therefore, many hospitals have been improving medical quality. To do this, it is necessary for them to visualize and improve current business process. In Japanese hospitals, the Process Flow Chart (PFC) representing business process flow for a variety of organizations is recommended to visualize the business process. However, the current description method for PFCs can be difficult to use in medical enterprises because there are few details that fit its particular character. Therefore, medical workers have constructed different PFCs. In this study, we observed the development of PFCs in two hospitals and identified and examined the deficiencies in the current description method for PFCs. The unspecified description methods for PFCs that were inappropriate to the medical business were classified. Next, we identified the types of business relations needed to visualize the process flow and proposed notations. Furthermore, based on the specific characteristics of the medical business, we added entry of items that complete flowchart. We developed a description method for PFCs based on the medical setting. The final proposal is useful in the construction of a PFC for hospitals, gives a more accurate picture of the current business processes, and can serve as a base for improving medical business processes and practices
