Isi artikel
A three-centimeter Cuisenaire rod may be used to elicit from a student a relatively elaborate mental image. The student helps the teacher to construct this image in his own mind, through the use of language, and the teacher uses language to show that he has gotten the desired picture. This simple procedure is used in this article as a vehicle for exploring certain aspects of what happens inside and between people in a language classroom, drawing on the work of Charles A. Curran, Abraham Maslow, Carl Rogers, Roy Schafer, and others. The essential feature of the procedure seems to be the teacher’s ability to make “counseling responses” to what the student says. The same type of teacher-response may be of value in many other procedures as well.
