Isi artikelAt NTPC- Simhadri, 2000MW Thermal power plant coal from the mines is unloaded with the help of wagon tipplers for box type wagons in addition to unloading from bottom opening wagons at track hopper. Due to unreliability of wagon tipplers coal unloading time is extending beyond the stipulated time norms causing demurrage charges.To improve the reliability of the wagon tipplers and reduce the unloading time, DMAIC (Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control) methodology is deployed. With the help of a process map various delays were analysed. Several tools have been deployed to solve this problem including SIPOC, Pareto Analysis, Cause and Effect Diagram, Failure Modes and Effect Analysis, and Hypothesis Testing. Through Brainstorming actions required to eliminate the root causes were planned and implemented. Hypothesis testing was done to confirm improvements. These improvements led to the reduction of average unloading time . and its standard deviation leading to substantial cost savings. These encouraging results have given impetus to the team to take up further improvement projects
