Fibromyalgia (FM) syndrome is a common chronic pain syndrome characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain and hyperalgesia. Despite increased awareness and understanding, FM remains underdiagnosed due to heterogeneity of its clinical presentation, pain site and comorbid conditions. The American College of Rheumatology (2010) proposed a simple, practical criteria more suitable for use in primary and specialty care for clinical diagnosis of fi bromyalgia. Extensive researches suggested a neurogenic origin for the most prominent symptom of FM. The clinical presentation of FM is heterogeneous; treatment should be individualized, depends on pain severity, presence of other symptoms or comorbidities and degree of functional impairment.
