I investigate ways to capitalize on emerging technologies to improve teaching and learning. Currently, I have three main foci First, I m interested in how to take advantage of dynamic, interactive visualizations of complex science concepts, such as chemical reactions, thermodynamcs, climate change, and photosyntesis, to improve understanding of complex science topics. Second, I am interested in ways to use learning environments, such as the Web-based Inquiry Science Environment (WISE), to promote cumulative learning. Third, I am exploring how to design automated guidance by scoring embedded assessments in the WISE environment and using the scores to personalize instruction.
