This paper is written based on the assumption that mass media in Indonesia hold the principal of social responsibility press theory. Regarding to Western democratic system that appreciate to media independency through press theory named the theory of press freedom, the media independency come from freedom of journalism role and political process that has been introduced by Thomas Paine, John Stuart Mill, Alex de Tocqueville, etc. Media is seen as a which has responsibility to society and media owner within several factors such as public trust, truth principles, accurate, honest, objective, and relevant. The implications of those factors are media independently to regulate themselves which follow the ethic and professionalism code of conduct to protect public interest. The problem is media independency is seemed out of control where ethics and professionalism mostly ignored. This condition has been severed with the existence of some form of media within many genre of content such as pornography and mystics. Ethical problem and professionalism could be complicated to be solved in short time. Because each country has specific cultural aspect in defining their media ethics and professionalism. In order to create independence, media should have ethics code and proefessionalim principle as an effort to maintain balance among media organizational, society, and commercial interest.
