Curriculum 2004, which has been implemented in almost all high schools in Indonesia, creates some problems for both teachers and students. One of the problems is the use of the appropriate media in teaching learning process, especially the use of multimedia computers. As multimedia computers become more widely used in schools, it is clear that they have the potential not just to support the achievement of conventional goals, but also to redefine what we mean by teaching. This paper shows how some software in multimedia computers can be used in genre based teaching. The discussion focuses on the use of Microsoft Word, Clip Arts, and Microsoft PowerPoint in the genre based learning cycle. The cycle includes building knowledge of the fields, modeling, and joint-construction, and independent construction. Moreover, with the support of animation and clip arts, Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint can provide more interesting ideas for teachers in developing their teaching steps and the materials.
