Isi artikelIndonesia is a multicultural society. There are around 300 ethnically and linguistically distinct groups inhabited the archipelago. This will refer to the diversity of skillfully ethnic language speakers. Those natives are born within the culture that bound them with the richness of their native language. This will give uneasy situation toward youngsters who are studying at any government institutions. Indonesia students, most of who have already equipped by their native language systems, are facing a perplexed situations when they have to study a different language. Those students are learning to comprehend and master the national language, Indonesian language. Then at another year those students have to comprehend and master a selected foreign language, English language. From this perspective, the writer offers a CLL in teaching students in Indonesia especially to learn and comprehend the selected foreign language. CLL comes from the idea to use the concept of psychotherapy in teaching a language. This concept was introduced by Charles A. Curran who was a psychologist himself, to make students of foreign language to feel easy and unafraid to study a new language. This concept was based on interaction and situational language learning. In making a dialogue comes to senses, the interaction between the speaker and the hearer will have to be understood completely. The disencouragement of the students who are practicing a dialogue will increase the feeling of unaccepted, hesitation, and threatened. The teacher must not interrupt the dialogue; she/he must give a secure feeling among the students during their dialogue. CLL was inspired by Carl Rogers’s way of giving therapy towards his patients. Carl Rogers studied psychoanalysis whereas this method aimed at finding out what would seem to be the problem within his patients him by going into the patients’ unconscious part of the brain. The adoption of the same method treats the student as the client and the teacher as the counselor. As a counselor the teacher must provide the ultimate security among the students. If the client, in this part is the student, feels secure and convenience in the class, he/she will be able to produce the target language correctly. The concept of CLL recognizes two basic procedures they are investment and reflections. In the first part, the student has to involve himself/herself in making a dialogue with another student in the class. In the second part, the student is making introspection within himself/herself to find out the mistake that they produced earlier in making interaction with other. In the investment part there are five steps to considers, they are (1) producing his/her native language loudly, (2) changing that language into the target one, (3) pronouncing the new words loudly in the target language, (4) making another words in the target language, in this part the teacher must not tolerate any mistake anymore, (5) the teacher must provide secure and convenience among the student while he/she is practicing the target language. The next idea is reflection part. It considers three steps within its part they are, (1) the student tries to express emotions, inner feeling, or past experience by using the target language, (2) the teacher tries to help the student’ mistake. He/she is analyzing the mistakes together with the student to seek solutions so the student is able to avoid it next time, (3) new vocabularies that the student may encounter during the practice must be introduced earlier or after the dialogue, so that he/she will be able to use them correctly. 2 The concept of CLL is not that difficult to apply to any schools or courses in English or any foreign language. It is so since CLL does not require any text books. The topic of the dialogue can be any issues from the surrounding. It can be conducted in the small class or private one. Another advantage is the teachers will not the only source of the knowledge that the students can access because the teachers will act as a counselor only that help the students with some problems of grammatical errors or new vocabularies that they may unaware. Moreover since there are less interruptions from the teacher the students will be able to act freely during his/her interactions with others.
