Isi artikelThe statement of the patient in the vignette is supported by a growing body of evidence that persons with disabilities confront barriers when attempting to access the health care system.1-7 Although the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act require that health care providers provide “full and equal access to care for persons with disabilities,”8,9 research has shown that patients with disabilities may be transferred in an unsafe manner onto examination tables and other equipment, receive less preventive care and fewer examinations, and report longer waits to see subspecialists.1-6
