It is suggested that the ambiguity of aset of paired comparison judgments may be measured by the quantity vs i 2 + s j 2 - 2r ij sisi, This quantity is termed thecomparatal dispersion. A simultaneous solution for scale values and ratios of comparatal dispersions has been presented and applied to some data on food preferences.
