the weakening of the principle of deconcentration, in one hand, and strengthening of the principle of decentralization, in other hand, that gives the widest possible autonomy to the regions has caused difficulties for the central government to carry out the coordination, supervision and guidance to the regions. With the "withheld" of deconcentration's authority, the central government does not have enough "devices" to hold such functions. In order the central government can do positive interventions to these areas to increase the presence of "central government" in these areas as well as to support regional autonomy in accelerating equitable development and prosperity of the people in Indonesia, it is necessary to strengthen and revitalize the application of the principle of deconcentration. This paper intends to discuss efforts to strengthen and revitalize deconcentration in question.
