Isi artikelPronouns of Sasak language have variety in terms of the forms, meanings, dialects, and characteristics (Nurhadi 1996, Sukmawati, 2004 and Riadatul Jannah 2004). Socio-cultural factors in the use of pronouns are paid less attention. Hence this research paper attempts to report how and why Sasak speakers apply their personal pronouns in a communication event. This ethnographical research was done to gather the information from the informants in a Bayan community in North Lombok, west Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. The informants were selected in terms of their age, mobile and their speaking Indonesia ability. The language practical were observed and the informants were in-depth interviewed. Based on the analysis and discussion, Sasak speakers apply three kinds of pronoun. Firstly the first person pronouns are used in various forms, for example aku, tiang and dawek. This use varies due to different social factors, for example, gender, status, relation and speech situation. Secondly the use of second pronouns diq, kamu, epe, sida, pelinggih, and pelungguh is applied differently because of linguistic and socio-cultural factors, social class, politeness, honorific, age, and social relation. Thirdly the third person pronoun is lack of variety. The variety is influenced by linguistic aspect instead of social factors.
